     2003-2004 Georgia / GA - Bag / Possession Limits & Hunting Zones / Wildlife Management Units / WMU's with accompanying hunting zone map.

     
     The deer limit in Georgia for the 2003-2004 hunting season is 10 antlerless deer and 2 antlered deer. One of the two antlered deer must have a minimum of 4 points, 1 inch or longer, on one side of the antlers. There are no antler restrictions for the other of the two antlered bucks except in counties with special antler restrictions.

     
     Deer killed on WMAs or NWRs requiring check-out of harvested deer will be tagged with a special WMA/NWR tag and do not count toward the season limit.

Firearm Deer Hunting in the Northern Zone:
October 27, 2003 - January 1, 2004


  • All counties in the Northen Zone except: Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, that portion of Fulton lying north or GA Hwy. 92, and that portion of Bibb County east of I-75 and I-475 to a line following US Hwy 129 north to GA Southern and FL Railroad and north of Seaboard Coastline Railroad to Twiggs County. Buck only except during either sex days.

  • In the portion of Bibb Countyfor firearm deer hunting and in Forsyth County South of GA Hwy 20, only shotguns loaded with buckshot and primitive weapons may be used (no other firearms allowed).

  • Antler restricitions in Hancock, Meriwether and Troup Counties:
    Only antlered bucks with at least four points (one inch or longer) on one side are legal.

  • Either Sex Days for the following Northern Zone Counties:

    Gilmer, Murray, Pickens, Rabun, and Whitfield Counties:
    (November 09; Nov. 16; November 30)


    Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Habersham, Lumpkin, Walker, and White Counties:
    (Nov. 09-10; November 16-17; Nov. 30-December 01; Dec. 31-January 01)

    Bartow, Cherokee, Dawson, Floyd, Gordon, Hall, Haralson Palding, and Polk Counties:
    (November 09-10; Nov. 21 - Dec. 01; December 26-Jan. 01)

    Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth (firearms restrictions south of GA Hwy 20), Fulton (South of GA Hwy 92), Qwinnett, Henry, Newton, and Rockdale Counties:
    (October 19 - January 01)

    Fannin, Towns & Union Counties:
    November 09

    Fulton County (North of Hwy. 92), portions of Bibb County, and all of Clayton, Cobb, and DeKalb Counties are closed to deer hunting with firearms.


     NOTE: Shotguns loaded with buckshot only and muzzleloaders may be used in Forsyth County south of GA Hwy. 20. and that portion of Bibb Countyto hunting.)



Firearm Deer Hunting in the Southern Zone:
October 19, 2003 - January 12, 2004


  •       Buck only except during either sex days in all Counties in the Southern Zone except that portion of Glynn County lying within Jekyll Island. Dooly and Macon Counties:

  •       Randolph and Talbot Counties: only antlered bucks with at least four points (one inch or longer) on one side are legal.

  •       Either Sex Days for the following Southern Zone counties:
          October 19, 2003- January 12, 2004

  • Deer Hunting - Archery Season - bag / posession limits:

  • Statewide (Either Sex): September 14, 2003 - October 11, 2004

  • Statewide - Archery Only Areas (Either Sex): September 14, 2003 - January 01, 2004
    in accordance bag limits, county-wide antler restrictions and other regulations.

  • Archery Only Counties:
    Deer may be hunted with legal archery weapons in that portion of (Bibb County), East of I-75 and I-475 to a line following US Hwy 129 North to GA Southern and FL Railroad and North of Seaboard Coastline Railroad to Twiggs County;

    (Clayton County), (Cobb County), (DeKalb County), and that portion of (Fulton County) lying north of GA Hwy 92.

  • NOTE: Hunter orange is not required in archery only counties.

  • Primitive Weapons Season Deer Hunting:

    Statewide (Either Sex): except in archery only counties and in accordance with bag / posession limits, county-wide antler restrictions and other regulations.

  • Bear Hunting season w/bag / posession limits:
    No dogs allowed.

    Bears must be reported to and tagged by personnel of the Wildlife Resources Division: Gainesville Office or )
    Armuchee Office (706/295-6041)
    or Calhoun Office (706/624-1367), within 24 hours of kill.

    After hours, call .

    Bears may also be checked at any WMA check station in the counties listed that arefor a managed deer hunt between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. during days of the hunt.

  • Northern Zone Bear Hunting:

  • Bears must be checked and tagged at the GA Forestry Commission Office at Folkston, the Dixon Memorial WMA Check Station, or GA Forestry Commission Office in Homerville from 12 noon through 9 p.m. on days of hunts.
    Firearms: September 27-28; Oct. 4-5; October .
    Statewide bag / posession season Limit: 1.

  • NOTE: Killing of female bears with cubs or bear cubs under 75 pounds is prohibited.

    Banded BirdsHunters: harvesting any banded migratory bird are advised to call the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Bird Banding Laboratory at 1-800-327-BAND.

  • Small Game Hunting Hunting season w/bag / posession limits:

    Bobcat and Fox
    Dec. 1-Feb. 15.
    No limit.
    Dog hunting is allowed.
    Bobcats and foxes may be hunted with small game firearms by hunters using manual calls.

    Opossum

    Northern Zone Raccoon:
    Oct. 15-Feb. 15;

    Oct. 15-Feb. 15;
    Daily limit 3.

    Squirrel
    Aug. 15-Feb. 28;
    Daily limit: 12.

    Coyotes, Armadillos, Groundhogs, Beavers, Starlings, Pigeons, and English Sparrows:
    No closed season
    No limit.
    Electronic calls may be used for hunting coyotes, except on WMAs.

    Trapping
    Dec. 1-Feb. 15 for mink, otter, fox, opossum, muskrat, skunk, bobcat, and weasel.
    Raccoons may be trapped only in that area south of Carroll, Fulton, Gwinnett, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, and Elbert Counties.
    There is no closed season for trapping beavers and coyotes.
